Samuel LaRosa Jr., 53, an electrical contractor who was deeply involved in youth sports in Upper Moreland, where he was a lifelong resident, died Thursday of cancer at Abington Hospital.

Mr. LaRosa was involved in a number of organizations, but his "passion was Little League baseball," said his wife Karyn. "It was his No. 1 love."

Mr. LaRosa got involved in sports in 1991 through his three sons. "I started it," his wife said. "We were on the sideline of a soccer field, and I said to him, 'You should coach.' It kind of went from there."

He served the Upper Moreland Little League in several roles, including president. He also was the administrator for Little League's District 22.

In addition, Mr. LaRosa was active in the Hoops organization in town and was an intramural coach, traveling-team coach, and director of registration for Upper Moreland's soccer organization.

"He was a role model for getting involved," his wife said, "and making a difference."

In addition to his wife, Mr. LaRosa is survived by his father, Samuel Sr.; sons Matt, Stephen and Alex; five brothers; two sisters; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and a great-nephew.

A Funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. David Roman Catholic Church, 316 N. Easton Rd., Willow Grove. Friends may call at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow and at 9 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham.

Memorial donations may be made to the LaRosa Trust in care of Wetzel & Son Funeral Home, 501 N. Easton Rd., Willow Grove, Pa. 19090.
