Marie L. O'Hagan | Tavern owner, 85
Marie L. "Mae" O'Hagan, 85, who with her husband owned a popular sports bar in Collingdale, died of heart failure last Friday at Taylor Hospice in Ridley Park.
She and Harry T. "Bud" O'Hagan, residents of Collingdale, operated O'Hagan's Tavern on MacDade Boulevard for about 30 years until they sold it in the 1990s. It is still named O'Hagan's Tavern.
Mrs. O'Hagan kept the books and would cook or do whatever was necessary if her husband needed help.
"She was a behind-the-scenes lady," said her daughter, Sharon Kukawski.
The tavern featured excellent sandwiches, and her father was known for his cheesesteaks, Kukawski said.
The O'Hagans were avid Eagles fans with season tickets, and they ran a bus to every home game.
Mrs. O'Hagan was born in Collingdale and graduated from Collingdale High School in 1941. She recently began spending her summers in the family's home in Wildwood.
In addition to her daughter, Mrs. O'Hagan is survived by a son, H. Thomas "Bear"; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her husband died in 2005.
A Funeral Mass will be said at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Francis de Sales Church, 33 New Rd., Lenni, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple Township.
Memorial donations may be made to Taylor Hospice, 300 Johnson Ave., Ridley Park, Pa. 19078.
