Patricia D. Johnston, 57, of Fairless Hills, an education administrator, died of cancer Friday at Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown.

Patricia D. Johnston, 57, of Fairless Hills, an education administrator, died of cancer Friday at Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown.

Dr. Johnston was curriculum supervisor for the Centennial School District before joining the Pennsbury School District as director of curriculum in 1998. She had been assistant superintendent for curriculum for the district since 2003. She also taught in the doctoral program at the University of Pennsylvania, at Delaware Valley College and occasionally lectured at other colleges.

Dr. Johnston graduated from Pennsbury High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She earned a master's degree in education from Temple University and a doctorate in language education from the University of Pennsylvania. For 17 years, she was a reading teacher in the Centennial School District before becoming a curriculum specialist.

She patronized the arts in Philadelphia and New York City and traveled often in the United States and Europe. An avid reader, she carefully researched the museums, opera houses and other sites she planned to visit, said her brother, James.

In addition to her brother, Dr. Johnston is survived by her mother, Norma Smith Johnston, a niece and two nephews.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Fluehr Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd., Richboro. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at New Life Christian Church, 4 Freedom Dr., Newtown. Friends may call at the church tomorrow from 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Newtown Cemetery.
