John R. Centanni, 77, of Newtown Square, a Korean War veteran and a retired operating engineer, died Tuesday at Paoli Hospital of complications from intestinal surgery.
John R. Centanni, 77, of Newtown Square, a Korean War veteran and a retired operating engineer, died Tuesday at Paoli Hospital of complications from intestinal surgery.
Mr. Centanni served in Korea in 1952 and 1953. He received a discharge because he was the sole provider for his mother and brother.
After leaving the Army, Mr. Centanni went to work as an operating engineer for several companies. While employed with McCloskey & Co. in Philadelphia, he worked on Veterans Stadium and the Spectrum, among other buildings. He later worked in sales and security.
Mr. Centanni enjoyed hunting, gardening, cooking and travel. Rosetta, Italy, was a favorite vacation spot.
Mr. Centanni is survived by his wife, Vera; a son, John Jr.; his mother, Connie; a brother; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow and 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Monday at Robert L. D'Anjolell Memorial Home, 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall.
