Isadore Treatman, 85, of Gladwyne, a retired hosiery supplier and slipper manufacturer, died Wednesday of heart failure at Abington Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Treatman graduated from Overbrook High School, where he was on the baseball and track teams. During World War II, he served in the Army in the Aleutian Islands.
After his discharge, he joined his father's business in Philadelphia, making hosiery from surplus nylon. He transformed the firm into Superior Knit Hosiery, a distributor of quality nylon stockings sold in special packaging he designed. Later, when panty hose became popular and was mass merchandised, he competed by manufacturing a line of slippers. He was involved in the design and marketing of the product, his son Jack said, and created his own samples.
He had a flair for style and acquired several major national accounts, his son said. "He had a great personality. His customers loved him," his son said. He retired in 2002.
For more than 20 years, Mr. Treatman organized family vacations to Nantucket, Bermuda, Florida, Nova Scotia, Stone Harbor, and Cook Forrest in Western Pennsylvania. He was a sports fan, and especially loved baseball.
His wife of 46 years, Harriet Treatman, died in 1999. In addition to his son, Mr. Treatman is survived by sons Howard, Jeremy and Stefan and a daughter, Ethyl Burns.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Abramson Center for Jewish Life, 1425 Horsham Rd., North Wales, Pa. 19454. Burial will be in Shalom Memorial Park, Philadelphia.
Memorial donations may be made to the Abramson Center.
