The Rev. Albert W. Dock, 62, pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Philadelphia for 24 years, died of pneumonia Monday at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Del. He lived in Wilmington.
The Rev. Albert W. Dock, 62, pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Philadelphia for 24 years, died of pneumonia Monday at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Del. He lived in Wilmington.
Mr. Dock was second vice president of the Baptist Ministers' Conference of Philadelphia and Vicinity at his death, having served as vice moderator of the Eastern Keystone Baptist Association and as an executive board member of the Pennsylvania Baptist State Convention.
He was a member of the National Baptist Convention USA, the Missionary Baptist Pastors Conference of Philadelphia, and Black Clergy Inc.
Besides his ministerial duties, Mr. Dock was president of the Philadelphia Police Community Relations program and served on the board of Allegheny West Foundation; the president's advisory board of Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary; the Gratz Cluster Resource Board of the Philadelphia School District; and the boards of the One Giant Step program and Resources for Better Families.
Born in Burke County, Ga., he earned a bachelor's degree from Geneva College, in Beaver Falls, Pa., in 1991, a master of divinity degree in 1995 from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a doctor of ministry degree from Palmer Theological Seminary last year.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Georgetta; sons Darrell, Darius and Reginald; daughters Angela Davis, Veronica Hawkins and Chandrea; his mother, Pindie; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six brothers; three sisters; an uncle; and several nieces and nephews.
A viewing is set for 9 a.m. tomorrow at Berean Baptist Church, 2425 W. Indiana Ave., followed by an 11 a.m. service there. Burial will be in Augusta, Ga.
