Michael Ganal | Ex-BMW executive, 54

Michael Ganal, 54, BMW's former chief financial officer, has died.

Mr. Ganal died overnight Thursday to Friday after a "severe illness," the carmaker said Monday in Frankfurt, Germany.

He joined BMW AG in 1986. Mr. Ganal was appointed a member of the board of management in 2000 and was made responsible for sales and marketing.

Since 2007, he had been in charge of the finance division as CFO.
