Dorothy "Dolly" McCloskey Small Kelley, 61, of Garnet Valley, who had a 37-year career selling advertising for The Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News, died Sunday at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media of complications from an infection.
A lifelong Delaware County resident, Mrs. Kelley graduated from Archbishop Prendergast High School in Drexel Hill. In 1972 she became a clerk in the advertising department at The Inquirer and eventually was promoted to supervisory positions.
She was an excellent saleswoman, consistently meeting her quotas and winning numerous awards, said her husband, Edwin J. Kelley III. She was Main Line regional sales supervisor for The Inquirer, Daily News and Philly.com when she retired in October. Mrs. Kelley had been active with the Newspaper Guild of Greater Philadelphia and had served on contract-negotiating committees for the union.
She loved cruises, her husband said, and traveled by ship to Bermuda, Jamaica and other Caribbean islands. She had also been a passenger aboard the QE2.
An adventurous chef, Mrs. Kelley collected cookbooks and enjoyed watching cooking shows. "She was always trying new dishes out on me," her husband said.
In addition to her husband of 21 years, she is survived by stepdaughters Patricia Watson, Christine Marzano, and Lauren Piskun; a stepson, Edwin IV; a brother; two sisters; a niece; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral is at noon tomorrow at Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 5980 Chichester Ave., Aston. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple Township.
