Louis Neibauer | Printing firm founder, 93

Louis Neibauer, 93, of Jenkintown, founder of Neibauer Press in Warminster, died last Saturday of kidney failure at Abington Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Neibauer grew up near Fourth and Daly Streets in South Philadelphia. He ended his education at eighth grade in order to help support his parents, by working as a courier between the Philadelphia and New York City offices of the Jewish Daily Forward.

In Mr. Neibauer's first career, he was a salesman and developer of products such as "the first envelope with a removable flap for advertising and the first rub-off promotional cards," said his son Fred.

Mr. Neibauer also developed the Sunoco "sunny dollar" cards, his son said.

In 1968, he founded Neibauer Press in Center City, which concentrated on religious fund-raising materials. The firm later moved to Warminster, where his son Nathan runs it.

Mr. Neibauer was a board member of Beth Sholom Congregation and Gratz College, both in Elkins Park, and of the Auerbach Central Agency for Jewish Education, an adjunct of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia.

Besides his sons, he is survived by daughter Cheryl Rubin, sister Esther Shernoff, brother Ralph, six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his beloved companion Myrna Felt.

The funeral took place at Beth Sholom on Monday. Burial was in Roosevelt Memorial Park in Trevose.
