David B. Winther, 79, of Wayne, a former investment adviser, died Feb. 4 at Devon Manor after heart surgery.

A 1948 graduate of Cheltenham High School, Mr. Winther earned his bachelor's degree from Ursinus College in 1952 and served in the Army's Quartermaster Corps in the States.
He was a stockbroker at Hornblower & Weeks form 1955 to 1965; an investment manager at Studley, Shupert & Co. from 1965 to 1969; and was vice president for investments at the Pennsylvania Manufacturers' Association Insurance Co. from 1969 to 1973, his wife, Norma, said. He worked in the Philadelphia offices of all three firms.
In 1973 in Philadelphia, he formed David B. Winther & Co. Inc. Investment Counsel, from which he retired in 1995.
He was a member of the Financial Analysts of Philadelphia, the Financial Analysts Federation, and the National Association of Business Economists.
Besides his wife, Mr. Winther is survived by sons David, Mark and Bert and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Main Line Unitarian Church, 816 S. Valley Forge Rd., Devon. Burial will be in the church's memorial garden.
