Harry Harris | Emmy-winning director, 86

Harry Harris, 86, the Emmy Award-winning director whose expansive credits include episodes of Fame, 7th Heaven, and Bonanza, died March 19 at his Los Angeles home of complications from a blood disorder.

Mr. Harris won an Emmy in 1982 for directing an episode of the drama series Fame, and he was nominated for the directing award in 1974 for an episode of The Waltons.

Mr. Harris worked his way up from mailroom to sound effects at Columbia Studios. He later became an editor at Desi Arnaz's Desilu Productions. Arnaz gave Mr. Harris his first directing gig with the TV series The Texan.

He went on to direct hundreds of TV episodes, from Steve McQueen in the western series Wanted - Dead or Alive to Rawhide, Gunsmoke, Lost in Space, and Hawaii Five-O. - AP
