D. Leonard Rosenfeldt, 90, of Northeast Philadelphia, a retired Realtor, died of heart failure Wednesday at the Delaware Valley Veterans Home in Philadelphia.
D. Leonard Rosenfeldt, 90, of Northeast Philadelphia, a retired Realtor, died of heart failure Wednesday at the Delaware Valley Veterans Home in Philadelphia.
At 16, Mr. Rosenfeldt began working for his family's business, Fidelity Collection Agency, managing apartments in West Philadelphia. By the time he was 20, he had a real estate license. He later became a Realtor and an appraiser.
In the early 1970s, he and his wife, Martha Corson Rosenfeldt, established MarLen Realty in West Philadelphia. The couple worked together for 20 years, buying and selling property and managing apartment buildings. He continued doing appraisals after his retirement. He also was a past president of the West Philadelphia Realty Board.
A graduate of Overbrook High School, Mr. Rosenfeldt attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania for three years. During World War II, he was an Army sergeant. He later was commander of the Max Slepin American Legion Post in Philadelphia. He was a Mason.
Mr. Rosenfeldt was active in Democratic politics, and manned the phones every Election Day to campaign for local candidates, said his stepdaughter, Rochelle DiLauro.
For the last five years, he lived at the veterans home, where he was elected president of his wing. He carried a clipboard on his wheelchair so he could write down residents' requests, and he lobbied for improvements such as fresh fruit and tablecloths in the dining room. Mr. Rosenfeldt enjoyed winters in Florida, socializing with friends, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of 35 years and stepdaughter, he is survived by a son, Robert; a stepson, Ian Katz; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Frances.
A Masonic service will be held at 12:45 p.m. today, followed by a funeral at 1, at Joseph Levine & Sons Memorial Chapel, 4737 Street Rd., Trevose. Entombment will be in King David Memorial Park, Bensalem.
