Robert F. Fortin, 63, a lawyer with firms in Philadelphia and Delaware and Montgomery Counties, died of lung cancer June 8 at his Rosemont home.

Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Fortin graduated from Central High School in 1963 and, after his 1967 graduation from the Air Force Academy, worked for four years in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations.

After graduating from Villanova University School of Law in 1974, Mr. Fortin was with the McDonnell Law Firm in Yeadon from 1974 to 1978, and with the Center City firm of Eilberg, Corson & Getson from 1978 to 1982.

His wife, Jane, said Mr. Fortin ran his own Center City practice, the Fortin Law Office, from 1982 to 1985.

Mr. Fortin joined Stevens & Johnson in Allentown in 1985, became a partner in 1986, and was a senior trial attorney until 1997.

Until he retired in 2007, he was a named partner with the Elkins Park firm of Monaghan, Ferrante & Fortin.

Since then, his wife said, he spent a good deal of time on Bob's Mystical Garden, his 25-foot sailboat, on Chesapeake Bay. In his spare time, he lawyered for Rubin, Fortunato & Harbison in Paoli.

Besides his wife of 41 years, Mr. Fortin is survived by daughters Anna, Meredith and Lucy; a sister; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow, at the Merion Tribute House, 625 Hazelhurst Ave., Merion.
