Herschel Rosenthal, 91, a liberal Democrat from Los Angeles who served 24 years in the California Legislature, died Friday in a nursing home.
Mr. Rosenthal, who represented parts of the San Fernando Valley, was first elected to the state Assembly in 1974 and served until 1982. He served in the state Senate from 1982 to 1998.
California Democratic Party Chairman John Burton, who served with Mr. Rosenthal in the Senate, called his former colleague an old-fashioned Democrat whose word was his bond. Mr. Rosenthal was forced out of the Legislature by term limits. - AP
