Ora 'Mama O' Frisby, special-ed assistant, dies at 60

Ora A. Frisby, a classroom assistant in special education for the Philadelphia School District for 25 years, avid churchwoman and civic leader, died of cancer June 10 at age 60.

Ora A. Frisby, a classroom assistant in special education for the Philadelphia School District for 25 years, avid churchwoman and civic leader, died of cancer June 10 at age 60.

Ora, known as "Mama O" by family and friends, was a graduate of Germantown High School. She was active in the Provident Baptist Church in Germantown, where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School.

She was secretary of Cub Scout Troop 523 and past president of Multicultural Affairs for the Gift of Life. She volunteered at the C.W. Henry School and the Germantown Settlement Charter school.

Ora was a member of 381 Productions, which sponsors dance instruction and holds line-dance events. She did computer work for the group.

"Mama O had a loving spirit and a big heart," her family said.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Frisby; a son, Marcus; her mother, Marjorie; two sisters, and grandchildren.

Services: Were held June 17.
