Dr. DiGiovanni retired from Taylor Hospital in June 2006, his wife, Elaine LoMonaco DiGiovanni, said. He continued to work part time at Taylor until becoming ill.

A native of South Philadelphia, Dr. DiGiovanni graduated from St. Joseph's Preparatory School. From 1968 to 1970 he served in the Navy in Rhode Island.

Dr. DiGiovanni and his wife were introduced by her mother and his aunt on a beach in Wildwood and married in 1965.

He loved fishing at their vacation home in Somers Point, N.J.; visiting Maine, where their son Stephen lives; dining out; and cooking, his wife said. His specialties were crab cakes, lasagna, and pancakes with M&Ms for the grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and son, Dr. DiGiovanni is survived by another son, Joseph; a sister; and four grandchildren.
