Pauline Sundheim | Company president, 53
Pauline Gramiak Sundheim, 53, of Blue Bell, president of a direct-marketing advertising firm, died of bile duct cancer Wednesday at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.
Since 2003, Mrs. Sundheim had owned Direct Marketing Alliance in Montgomeryville. She knew every facet of the business, said her daughter, Rebecca, and though the staff grew to more than 80, she was on a first-name basis with all her employees and clients.
Before starting her firm, Mrs. Sundheim co-owned Direct Marketing Partners, was a manager for British Advertisement Circulation Associates, worked in database sales for Worldco in Norristown, and was circulation manager at Philadelphia Magazine.
Mrs. Sundheim grew up in Essington and graduated from Notre Dame High School in Moylan. While studying communications at Drexel University, she interned at Philadelphia Magazine.
In 1977, she dropped out of college to work in the magazine's advertising department. She later was an assistant editor and was circulation manager when she left in 1989.
Mrs. Sundheim enjoyed gardening, vacationing in Cape May, and entertaining friends and extended family at poolside parties at her home.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her husband of 22 years, Stephen R. Sundheim; her mother, Pauline Gramiak; four brothers; and a sister.
A memorial service will be at noon Monday at C.C. Hancock Memorial United Methodist Church, 542 Wesley Rd., Springfield, Delaware County. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m.
