Samuel B. Crum | Chiropractor, 85
Samuel B. Crum, 85, a former chiropractor in Philadelphia and Bucks County, died of complications from Alzheimer's disease Sept. 17 at Bentley Care Center, a nursing home in Naples, Fla.
Born in New York City, he dropped out of school to become an apprentice engraver, graduated in 1941 from high school classes run at night by the District of Columbia, and served as a torpedoman on submarines in the Pacific during World War II.
In 1949, Mr. Crum graduated from the Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, and practiced in Wayland, N.Y., before moving to Philadelphia.
A daughter-in-law, Mary Crum, said that for several years he maintained two practices under his own name.
From 1951 through 1970, she said, one office was in the Rhawnhurst section of Northeast Philadelphia, and from 1963 until he retired in 1987, his other practice was in Holland, Bucks County. From 1965 to 1973, he was a board member of the former Pennsylvania Chiropractic Society, which named him chiropractor of the year in 1968. Mr. Crum is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rita; three sons, S. Brian, Clyde, and John; and five grandchildren.
A memorial was set for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Northampton Presbyterian Church, 539 Buck Rd., Holland.
