Robert F. Thrash, 68, a commissioner for the Collingdale Athletic Club in the 1970s and '80s, died of complications from a pulmonary embolism Friday at his home in Collingdale.
Robert F. Thrash, 68, a commissioner for the Collingdale Athletic Club in the 1970s and '80s, died of complications from a pulmonary embolism Friday at his home in Collingdale.
Born in Hazleton, Pa., Mr. Thrash graduated from Collingdale High School in 1959 and earned a bachelor's degree in metallurgy from Temple University in 1972.
He was the captain of the Collingdale High School basketball team in the 1958-59 season, his son Robert E. said, and was named to the all-Delaware County team in 1959.
Mr. Thrash began his career at Clifton Precision in Clifton Heights in 1962, and left there in 1990 as a quality-control manager. He retired with the same title at American Builtrite in Moorestown in 2007.
A softball player into his 60s, he was an umpire in Delaware County fast-pitch and slow-pitch leagues from 1983 to 1995, coached football in the 1970s and '80s for the Collingdale Athletic Club.
Besides his son Robert, Mr. Thrash is survived by his wife of 45 years, Margaret; a son, Jeffrey; a daughter, Patricia Robak; and five grandchildren.
Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Eugene Roman Catholic Church, 200 S. Oak Ave., Primos, followed by an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass there, with burial in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple Township.
