James Wieghart, 76, a former New York Daily News editor and Central Michigan University journalism chairman, died Sunday at a hospital in Clare, Mich., after treatment for pneumonia.
James Wieghart, 76, a former New York Daily News editor and Central Michigan University journalism chairman, died Sunday at a hospital in Clare, Mich., after treatment for pneumonia.
Mr. Wieghart graduated from the University of Wisconsin and worked for the Milwaukee Journal and the Milwaukee Sentinel. He joined the New York Daily News Washington bureau, where he served as a Vietnam War correspondent. He later became the paper's editor.
He resigned in 1984 to write for Scripps-Howard newspapers and became Central Michigan's journalism chairman in 1989. - AP
