LeRoy W. Tillman Jr., 54, a former reporter for the Associated Press who covered the city of Washington for more than a decade, was found dead in his home Feb. 17 of an apparent heart attack.

LeRoy W. Tillman Jr., 54, a former reporter for the Associated Press who covered the city of Washington for more than a decade, was found dead in his home Feb. 17 of an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Tillman worked for the AP in Washington from 1986 to 1998. He wrote about all facets of city life, from homicide rates to the cherry blossom festival.

A former colleague said that Mr. Tillman was working the night in 1990 when Mayor Marion Barry was arrested in an FBI sting for possession of cocaine. Mr. Tillman then covered the mayor through his reelection four years later.
