Carol Ann Antlitz DeGiulio, 55, of Rose Valley, development coordinator for the Elmwood Park Zoo, died of complications from kidney stones at Crozer-Chester Medical Center on Thursday, her 21st wedding anniversary.
In 2005, Mrs. DeGiulio became membership coordinator at the Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown. Since 2007 she had been development coordinator at the zoo, organizing fund-raising events and overseeing the adopt-an-animal program.
She was adept at getting businesses to donate services, said Elmwood Park Zoo director William R. Konstant. She would solicit plants from local nurseries and would be out digging in the dirt, Konstant said. She loved the zoo's animals and gardens and was always smiling and enthusiastic, he said.
Before joining the zoo, Mrs. DeGiulio worked for the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics in Philadelphia and at The Studio in Swarthmore.
She was a native of Baltimore and attended Towson University. She was director of the Maryland Psychiatric Association before her marriage to Frank DeGiulio.
Mrs. DeGiulio served on the board of the Helen Kate Furness Free Library in Wallingford and was a member of the Rose Valley Garden Club and Rose Valley Folk. She enjoyed the Phillies, sailing, cooking, and hosting parties.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Alexander; a stepdaughter, Erin DeGiulio; her mother, Carolyn Antlitz; her father and stepmother, Albert and Lucille Antlitz; two brothers; and three sisters.
A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. today at St. John Chrysostom Roman Catholic Church, 617 St. Providence Rd., Wallingford.
