Carmen Capalbo, 84, a theater director and producer whose revival of The Threepenny Opera in the 1950s became one of the biggest hits in off-Broadway history and who directed the premiere of Eugene O'Neill's A Moon for the Misbegotten on Broadway in 1957, died Sunday in Manhattan.

A Moon for the Misbegotten
on Broadway in 1957, died Sunday in Manhattan.
The cause was emphysema, his son, Marco, said.
Mr. Capalbo was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Harrisburg. As a high school student he produced, directed, and acted in The Children's Playhouse, a Sunday-morning show broadcast on Harrisburg station WKBO.
While serving in the Army during World War II, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and earned a Bronze Star for bravery and a Purple Heart after being wounded in a mortar attack.
In addition to his son, he is survived by a sister and a daughter, Carla.
