John Morrell, award-winning salesman

John H. Morrell Sr., a retired award-winning insurance salesman and Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, died Monday.

John H. Morrell Sr., a retired award-winning insurance salesman and Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, died Monday.

He was 93 and was living in Jupiter, Fla., but had lived previously in Upper Merion.

Morrell was born in Philadelphia and was a 1935 graduate of Overbrook High School.

He was attending Temple University when he was called to serve in the Air Corps at the outbreak of World War II.

He was a highly respected salesman for Phoenix Mutual Insurance Co. for 35 years.

"He was the patriarch of his family who was loved and admired by all for his strength, his lifelong advice and the assistance he was always happy to provide," his family said.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris Morrell; a son, John Jr.; a daughter, Janet Hutcheson; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by another son, Lawrence N. "Larry" Morrell, and a grandson, John H. Morrell III.

Services: Memorial service 11 a.m. May 8 at United Methodist Church, 900 Brandywine Road, West Palm Beach, Fla.

Burial will be private.
