Dwayne C. Herbert, 61, of East Norriton, a lieutenant with the Norristown Police Department, died of lung cancer Monday, April 26, at Montgomery Hospital.
Dwayne C. Herbert, 61, of East Norriton, a lieutenant with the Norristown Police Department, died of lung cancer Monday, April 26, at Montgomery Hospital.
Lt. Herbert joined the Norristown Police Department in 1974 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2000. He had been a patrolman, served in the motorcycle unit, was a community relations commander, and was patrol commander overseeing everyday operations. For eight years he also worked part time at Carriage Trade Auto Auction in Conshohocken.
He was a founding member of the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Officers Association and was honored at the association's 20th anniversary banquet in February.
Lt. Herbert graduated from Norristown Area High School and attended Montgomery County Community College.
He coached Norristown Police Athletic League and Little League baseball teams. He enjoyed playing baseball and basketball, playing drums, dining in fine restaurants, riding his Harley-Davidson, and driving his 1995 Chevy Super Sport Impala.
Lt. Herbert is survived by daughters Dwaynea Cooper and Monica; a sister; a grandson; and former wives Yvonne Chestnutt and Kathy Herbert.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 29, and from 8 a.m. followed by services at 10 a.m. Friday, April 30, at Ebenezer Methodist Church, 234 E. Spruce St., Norristown. Burial will be in Morris Cemetery in Phoenixville.
