Steven R. Kiss, 58, of Lafayette Hill, a business co-owner, died of brain cancer Wednesday, April 28, at Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse.
Steven R. Kiss, 58, of Lafayette Hill, a business co-owner, died of brain cancer Wednesday, April 28, at Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse.
Mr. Kiss grew up in Erdenheim and graduated from Springfield High School in Montgomery County.
After earning a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Delaware in 1973, he joined Paco Winders Manufacturing in Philadelphia. The firm, which produces machinery for making paper tubes, cans and cores, was founded by his father, Emil, and his uncle, Fred, in 1955. Since 1990, Mr. Kiss had been president of Paco Winders, which he co-owned with his brother, Emil Jr.
He was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the Composite Can and Tube Institute. He chaired the institute's safety committee and was editor of one of its publications, Machine Guarding Album.
An avid golfer, Mr. Kiss was a 38-year member of the Philadelphia Cricket Club. He served on the club's board of governors and chaired its grounds committee.
He enjoyed gardening, travel and collecting stamps, Boy Scout memorabilia, cameras, and Toby Jugs.
He and his wife, Nancy Lerch Kiss, met skiing in Vermont and married in 1980.
In addition to his wife and brother, Mr. Kiss is survived by his mother, Stella; daughters Elizabeth and Carolyn; a son, Gregory; and a sister.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at First Presbyterian Church in Springfield, 1710 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown. Friends may call from 3 p.m. Mr. Kiss was a church elder and had chaired the church's corporate committee.
