Alan R. Sredenschek, 78, of Media, an electrical engineer, died of a heart attack Sunday, May 30, at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media.

Alan R. Sredenschek, 78, of Media, an electrical engineer, died of a heart attack Sunday, May 30, at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media.

A native of Schenectady, N.Y., Mr. Sredenschek earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Pennsylvania State University, where he met his future wife, Norene Runyeon.

He was an engineer for General Electric in Philadelphia before serving in the Army from 1955 to 1957 at the White Sands Proving Ground in New Mexico.

After his discharge, he returned to GE. In the early 1970s, he joined the DuPont Co. in Newark, Del. For the next 19 years, he designed and developed lighting for DuPont's manufacturing and research facilities. He retired in the early 1990s.

Mr. Sredenschek was an enthusiastic Nittany Lions fan and had season tickets to Penn State football games for many years. He was an avid golfer and a member of the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by sons Thomas and James, daughter Anne Tomasello, and four grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 3, at Middletown Presbyterian Church, 273 Old Middletown Rd., Elwyn, where friends may call after 10. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Sredenschek was active on several church committees and was a church elder for 18 years. Memorial donations may be made to the church endowment fund.
