Walter H. Allwoerden, 84, of West Chester, an electrical engineer, died of heart failure Wednesday, June 2, at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester.

Walter H. Allwoerden, 84, of West Chester, an electrical engineer, died of heart failure Wednesday, June 2, at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester.

Mr. Allwoerden grew up in York, Pa. During World War II, he served in the South Pacific aboard the aircraft carrier Lexington. The ship saw action in the Battle of the Philippine Sea and the Battle of Leyte Gulf.

After his discharge, Mr. Allwoerden earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He then joined Philadelphia Electric Co., where he met his future wife, Dolores Beswick.

Since retiring from Peco in 1987, he and his wife had spent winters in Fort Myers, Fla.

Mr. Allwoerden was past president of the Broomall Rotary Club. He enjoyed golfing, reading, and traveling, especially to Hawaii.

In addition to his wife of 39 years, he is survived by a son, Kenneth; a brother; and two grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, at SS. Peter and Paul Church, 1325 Boot Rd., West Chester. Friends may call at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham.
