David L. Forde | Physician, 73

David L. Forde, 73, of Philadelphia, a physician at Chestnut Hill Hospital, died of heart failure on Tuesday, June 8, at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

David L. Forde, 73, of Philadelphia, a physician at Chestnut Hill Hospital, died of heart failure on Tuesday, June 8, at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

His son, David L. Jr., said Dr. Forde was a pulmonary specialist with a specialty in critical care medicine.

Born in Philadelphia, Dr. Forde graduated from LaSalle College High School in 1955, earned a bachelor's in premed at LaSalle College in 1959, and graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1963.

After his internship and residency, Dr. Forde served as a Navy physician from 1967 to 1969, based at Portsmouth (Va.) Naval Hospital, and was discharged as a lieutenant commander.

His son said that from 1969 to 2008, Dr. Forde was on the staff both at Chestnut Hill Hospital and at Chestnut Hill Medical Associates.

From 1992 to 1994, Dr. Forde was president of the hospital's medical staff.

His son said that several times, first-year medical residents at Chestnut Hill Hospital gave him a Golden Apple Award for outstanding dedication and commitment to teaching.

Besides his son, Dr. Forde is survived by wife Barbara; daughter Kathleen; a brother; a sister; and a grandson.

A viewing was set from 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at Our Mother of Consolation Catholic Church, 9 E. Chestnut Hill Ave., before an 11:30 a.m. funeral there, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham.
