Louis Iozzi, 89, a Delaware County urologist, died of pneumonia Thursday, Sept. 9, at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park.
Louis Iozzi, 89, a Delaware County urologist, died of pneumonia Thursday, Sept. 9, at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park.
Born in New Castle, Pa., Dr. Iozzi graduated from New Castle High School in 1938 and served as a Navy apprentice pharmacist at the former Philadelphia Naval Hospital during World War II.
Dr. Iozzi earned his bachelor's degree at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster in 1946 and graduated in 1949 from what is now Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.
Recalled to military duty, he was an Air Force flight surgeon in Korea in 1951.
Dr. Iozzi was chief of the urology department at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Sacred Heart Medical Center in Chester, and Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park, said his wife, Gloria. He was a member of the American Urological Association.
In the last few years, his wife said, he enjoyed Saturday breakfasts with golfing buddies at a diner in Media.
Besides his wife of 61 years, Dr. Iozzi is survived by his son, Louis; daughter, Susan Howie; a brother; and four grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 13.
