Nathan H. Marantz, 27, of West Berlin, a volunteer with the U.S. Search and Rescue Task Force and various fraternal service organizations, died of lymphoma on Friday, Sept. 17, at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

After graduating from Overbrook High School in 2002, Mr. Marantz followed in his father's and grandfather's footsteps and became a member of the Knights of Columbus (fourth degree), the Ancient Order of Hibernians (major degree), the Chapel of Four Chaplains, and others.

Through those organizations, Mr. Marantz participated in numerous charity events. As a Kentucky Colonel ambassador of good will, he traveled the region promoting volunteerism, said his father, David.

He enjoyed helping others, his family and friends said.

"Anything you needed, he was right there for you," said his friend Liz Verna.

For several years, Mr. Marantz was a volunteer member of the U.S. Search and Rescue Task Force based in Elkins Park. He was an instructor in wilderness and snow survival, his family said.

Mr. Marantz was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and raised in West Berlin.

After high school, Mr. Marantz received bachelor's degrees in criminal justice and education from Camden County College. He graduated in 2007.

Mr. Marantz worked part-time for the Burlington County Bridge Commission as a toll collector.

In addition to his father, Mr. Marantz is survived by his mother, Marcy Meltzer; stepmother Carole Richards Marantz; two sisters; and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon Monday, Sept. 20, at the William A. Moore Funeral Home, 708 Fayette St., Conshohocken. A service will follow at noon at the funeral home.

Interment will be at St. Matthew Cemetery, Conshohocken.
