Barry Zwick, 68, longtime editor at the Los Angeles Times who also wrote regularly for the paper's Travel section, died Sunday of diabetes-related cardiac arrest at his home in the San Fernando Valley.

Barry Zwick, 68, longtime editor at the Los Angeles Times who also wrote regularly for the paper's Travel section, died Sunday of diabetes-related cardiac arrest at his home in the San Fernando Valley.

Mr. Zwick spent 37 years at the Times, starting as a national copy editor. He was an editor on the national and foreign desks and managed the Los Angeles Times-Washington Post News Service for seven years. He also worked as a news editor and assistant readers' representative, and taught editing at the University of Southern California.

Mr. Zwick continued to write travel stories for the Times and other publications after retiring in 2004.

After graduating from Ohio State University in 1963 with a degree in journalism, he became a copy editor for The Inquirer. He left in 1964 to earn a master's degree in journalism at Columbia University, then became night news editor at the Detroit Free Press. - AP
