Sidney A. Greenblatt, 81, of Marlton, a longtime South Jersey pharmacist and a military veteran, died from complications of multiple myeloma on Thursday, Dec. 2, at Virtua Marlton.

Mr. Greenblatt, longtime owner of Stiles Pharmacy in Moorestown, was a pharmacist in the old-fashioned sense. He would remove customers' splinters and tell people what they should take for a cold. Politicians would come into his store just to chat, and he always had a smile for patrons, his family said.

"He was very outgoing. Everyone came to him for medical advice," his wife, Lois, said.

After owning Stiles for 32 years, he sold the pharmacy and retired to a part-time government job.

He worked as a pharmaceutical consultant for the New Jersey Medicaid/Medicare office for 10 years, his wife said.

Mr. Greenblatt was also involved in many South Jersey community organizations, including the Jewish Federation of Camden County, the Moorestown Rotary, Marlton Township's Senior Advisory Council, and the Camden and Burlington County Republican Parties.

"They called him Mr. Republican," his wife said.

He was also a past president of the New Jersey Pharmaceutical Association.

Mr. Greenblatt was born and raised in Philadelphia. He graduated from Central High School in 1946 and enlisted in the Army Air Corps right away. He served in the occupation of Japan and rose to the rank of sergeant. He was discharged in 1949.

When he returned to Philadelphia, he enrolled in Temple University's School of Pharmacy. He graduated in 1954.

He worked in a pharmacy at 18th and Spruce Streets in Center City for several years. In 1956, he married Lois Preissman, whom he had met at Einstein Medical Center when he went to visit his sister's newborn child and she was the nurse.

In 1962, he bought Stiles Pharmacy.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Greenblatt is survived by sons Eric, David, and Edward; daughter Beth Ginsberg; nine grandchildren; and a sister.

Relatives and friends are invited at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, to Platt Memorial Chapels, 2001 Berlin Rd. in Cherry Hill. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at Platt.

Interment will be in Crescent Memorial Park in Pennsauken.
