John D. McAllister Jr., 59, of King of Prussia, a real estate broker and lawyer, died of cancer Monday, Dec. 20, at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester.

A lifelong resident of King of Prussia, Mr. McAllister graduated from Upper Merion High School, where he played football.

After earning a bachelor's degree from George Washington University, he worked for Ridge Homes in Conshohocken, where he met his future wife, Shirley Skilton. He was in mortgage services and she was in customer services. He later worked for Plymouth Mortgage before joining his father's firm, Century 21 John D. McAllister Inc. in King of Prussia.

He earned his broker's license and then earned a law degree at night from Widener University while selling real estate. Having a lawyer in the office meant home buyers didn't need to hire attorneys to accompany them to closings, his wife said.

Mr. McAllister was active with the King of Prussia Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. For several years, he coached softball teams for the Upper Merion Baseball Association.

He was a Phillies and Eagles fan, and enjoyed boating at Boothbay Harbor, Maine, and on the Chesapeake Bay.

In addition to his wife of 34 years, Mr. McAllister is survived by daughters Katherine Eck, Margaux, Jacqueline, and Patricia; a sister; and three granddaughters.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, at Bacchi Funeral Home, 805 DeKalb St., Bridgeport. Friends may call from 9. Inurnment will be in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia.
