Elan Prystowsky, 46, of Queen Village, a real estate developer, died of multiple myeloma Wednesday, March 2, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Elan Prystowsky, 46, of Queen Village, a real estate developer, died of multiple myeloma Wednesday, March 2, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Prystowsky operated two firms, Queen Village Development Co. and Gimme Shelter, with partners Cliff Grunes and Chris Dadaris. They bought and renovated properties for residential use in Queen Village and in Northern Liberties, where they converted a former factory into condominiums. They also built a single-family home in Bucks County.
Mr. Prystowsky was diagnosed with multiple myeloma a year ago and underwent a stem-cell transplant. He continued to work, even from his hospital bed, said his father, Rabbi Seymour Prystowsky.
He was respected for the quality of his work and his honesty, his father said.
Mr. Prystowsky graduated from Colonial High School in Plymouth Whitemarsh and earned a bachelor's degree from Brandeis University. Growing up, he visited Israel, the homeland of his mother, Cochava, and spent his junior year at the Hebrew University there. He loved Israel and returned often, his mother said.
Mr. Prystowsky earned a master's degree in business administration from Pennsylvania State University before establishing his businesses.
Since 1998, he had been married to Galila Ganon Prystowsky, a native of Israel.
He enjoyed hiking, camping, and biking. He was "a free spirit," his father said.
Mr. Prystowsky was a member of Congregation Or Ami in Lafayette Hill, where his father was rabbi for many years, and Society Hill Synagogue.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a son, Tal; a daughter, Liron, and a sister.
A funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 4, at Goldsteins' Rosenberg's Raphael-Sacks Memorial Chapel, 6420 N. Broad St. Burial will be in Shalom Memorial Park.
