Joel Schrager, 75, of Warminster, a retired ad design and layout supervisor for The Inquirer, died of pancreatic cancer Thursday, April 21, at Abington Hospice in Warminster.

Joel Schrager, 75, of Warminster, a retired ad design and layout supervisor for The Inquirer, died of pancreatic cancer Thursday, April 21, at Abington Hospice in Warminster.

Mr. Schrager retired after 45 years with The Inquirer in 2000. "He was talented and sociable and got along with everyone," said a colleague, Bob Moore.

Mr. Schrager graduated from South Philadelphia High School and attended the Philadelphia Museum School of Art, now part of the University of the Arts.

He joined The Inquirer as a layout artist in 1955 and learned on the job, his wife, Harriet Caplan Schrager, said. "The Inquirer was his life; he loved his work," she said.

Mr. Schrager and his wife met when they lived in Rhawnhurst and she was walking her dog. They married in 1959. They enjoyed dining out and discovering restaurants. In his free time, he painted oil landscapes.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Schrager is survived by a son, Scott; a brother; and a sister.

A graveside service was held Friday, April 22, at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Trevose.
