Yvonne Briscoe Ireland, 74, of Erdenheim, a retired office manager, died of organ failure Thursday, May 19, at Abington Memorial Hospital.

Yvonne Briscoe Ireland, 74, of Erdenheim, a retired office manager, died of organ failure Thursday, May 19, at Abington Memorial Hospital.

In 1982, Mrs. Ireland became office manager for Erdenheim Pediatrics, which later became Lockman & Lubell Pediatric Associates in Fort Washington. After retiring at 65, she worked part-time for the practice as a referral specialist until January.

Mrs. Ireland graduated from Yeadon High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Millersville University. She taught for several years at McKinley Elementary School in Elkins Park.

In 1956, she marred Charles S. Ireland Jr. While raising a family in Mount Airy, she volunteered at Deborah Heart Hospital, was a substitute teacher in Philadelphia public schools, and became an expert candle-maker. During summers she camped with her family on the East Coast and in Canada.

After she and her family moved to Erdenheim in 1974, she worked for Adelphia Cable Co. before joining Erdenheim Pediatrics.

A travel enthusiast, Mrs. Ireland visited France in 1989 with her mother, mother-in-law, and daughter and enjoyed vacations with extended family, including to Cancun, Jamaica, Cape Cod, and North Carolina. She had a vibrant social life and kept up friendships with former Mount Airy neighbors, her family said.

Mrs. Ireland is survived by sons Charles III and Joel; a daughter, Rebecca; two stepbrothers; three grandsons; and her former husband.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 28, at Oxford Presbyterian Church, 8501 Stenton Ave. Friends may call from 8 a.m. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery.
