Nicholas G. Spyropoulos, 83, of Exton, a pediatrician, died of kidney failure Tuesday, July 19, in the nursing center at Barclay Friends in West Chester.

Nicholas G. Spyropoulos, 83, of Exton, a pediatrician, died of kidney failure Tuesday, July 19, in the nursing center at Barclay Friends in West Chester.

From 1971 until he retired in 2005, Dr. Spyropoulos maintained offices primarily in Lionville, but at times in Coatesville, Thorndale, and at his home in Exton.

He was on the staff of Brandywine Hospital in Coatesville and Chester County Hospital in West Chester.

Born in Alea, in the Peloponnese region of Greece, he graduated from the University of Athens in the 1950s and, after military service, from its medical school.

Dr. Spyropoulos came to Philadelphia and in 1963 completed his residency in pediatrics at what was then Hahnemann Medical College.

He returned to Greece to practice in Nafplio before finally settling in the United States in 1971.

A son, George, said that besides being a member of the American Hellenic Medical Association and the Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia, Dr. Spyropoulos was especially proud of his membership in the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association.

Besides his son, Dr. Spyropoulos is survived by his wife, Asimina; another son, Vasilios; a daughter, Niki Quinn; a sister; and four grandchildren.

A visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, 410 N. Church St., West Chester.

A second visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, at St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church, 35 N. Malin Rd., Broomall, before an 11 a.m. funeral service there. Burial will be in Oaklands Cemetery, West Chester.
