Elmer I. Rosen, 91, of Bryn Mawr, an accountant, died of pneumonia Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Lankenau Hospital.

Elmer I. Rosen, 91, of Bryn Mawr, an accountant, died of pneumonia Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Lankenau Hospital.

Mr. Rosen was with the accounting firm of Laventhal & Horwath and then the firm of D.H. Shapiro, which merged with Alexander Grant & Co. and now is Grant Thornton International. He was managing partner of the Philadelphia office of Grant Thornton International when he retired in 1978.

For the next 28 years, he maintained an accounting office in Ardmore specializing in personal tax returns.

He was past president of the Philadelphia Chapter of Certified Public Accountants and served on the ethics committee of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Mr. Rosen grew up in Wynnefield and graduated from Overbrook High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from Temple University.

He was a fan of all the Philadelphia professional sports teams and often attended the games, his wife, Barbara "Bobbi" Feurer Rosen said.

Until he was well into his 70s he played tennis regularly, she said, and he was a supporter of the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Center in Philadelphia.

Mr. Rosen and his wife enjoyed vacationing with their family, especially in the south of France.

They lived in Wynnewood until seven years ago, when they moved to Beaumont, a retirement community in Bryn Mawr.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, Mr. Rosen is survived by daughters Amy Quinn and Rhonda, and three grandchildren.

A graveside service is private.
