Peter S. Given Sr., 86, of Huntingdon Valley, a retired vice president of SKF Industries who created miniature replicas of antique furniture, died of heart failure Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the nursing center at Rydal Park in Rydal.

Mr. Given grew up in Glen Ridge, N.J. During World War II, he served in the Navy aboard landing craft in the Pacific and participated in the Battles of Iwo Jima and Saipan.

After his discharge, he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem.

Mr. Given then joined SKF Industries, a manufacturer of roller bearings in Philadelphia. He later worked at the SKF research facility in King of Prussia. After retiring as vice president of technology in the early 1990s, he was a consultant for the firm for five years.

A talented woodworker, Mr. Given made furniture for his home, including a table and elaborate sewing cabinet, and he made miniature versions of furniture displayed in museums. He would take photos and measured drawings and do extensive research on the pieces he copied, a son, Peter Jr., said.

Mr. Given won awards for his miniatures, which were exhibited at the Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill.

He and his first wife, E. Jane MacFadden, married in 1951. They raised two children in Huntingdon Valley, and in the 1960s, Mr. Given served on the board of the Upper Moreland School District.

His wife died in 1989, and he later married Eleanor Kelley.

In addition to his wife and son, Mr. Given is survived by another son, Mac; stepsons William, Stephen, and Scott Kelley; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Abington Presbyterian Church, 1082 Old York Rd., Abington.
