Linda J. Haines, 51, of West Chester, a corporate controller and sports enthusiast, died of breast cancer Saturday, Sept. 3, at home.

Linda J. Haines, 51, of West Chester, a corporate controller and sports enthusiast, died of breast cancer Saturday, Sept. 3, at home.

Mrs. Haines grew up in Broomall and lettered in field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse at Marple Newtown High School.

She earned a bachelor's degree from Millersville University, where she played varsity basketball and lacrosse. In 1984, her senior year, she was a member of the lacrosse team that won a Division III national championship. Recently, she was inducted into the Millersville University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Mrs. Haines enjoyed watching and playing sports of all kinds, said her husband, Austin. She watched ESPN's Sports Center every morning with their two sons and played on the tennis teams at the Brandywine Racquet Club and at the West Chester Golf & Country Club.

She spent her professional career in the accounting field. While working, she earned a master's degree in business administration in 1986 from St. Joseph's University. She was volunteer treasurer of the West Chester United Soccer Club and was its general manager for several months. In October 2010, she was named corporate controller of American Hospital Services Group in Exton.

Mrs. Haines loved reading on the beach at the Jersey Shore, gardening, and listening to music, especially to Sugarland, Van Morrison, and Bruce Springsteen.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons Zack and Jimmy; her father, Alexander MacLennan; two sisters; and a brother.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, at DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, 410 N. Church St., West Chester. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 12, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 10 W. Pleasant Grove Rd., West Chester.
