Sally M. Warden Stone, 76, former volunteer cochair and treasurer of the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair, died of dementia Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Quadrangle, a retirement community in Haverford.

Sally M. Warden Stone, 76, former volunteer cochair and treasurer of the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair, died of dementia Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Quadrangle, a retirement community in Haverford.
For 30 years, Mrs. Stone was a member of the horse show's executive committee. She served as cochair of the fair from 1972 to 1974, and as treasurer from 1979 to 1999.
As a little girl, she helped sell lemon sticks at the fair, at which her mother, Katherine, was a volunteer.
The annual event has benefitted Bryn Mawr Hospital since 1919. Since 1972, it has raised almost $14 million for the hospital, said Mimi Killian, a member of the executive committee.
Mrs. Stone was a also a volunteer in the emergency room and maternity ward at the hospital and served on the women's board.
She attended Agnes Irwin School and was a 1952 graduate of Madeira School in Virginia. She attended Briarcliffe College in New York and studied at the University of Pennsylvania, where she met her future husband, Warren T. Stone. They married in 1955.
While he pursued a career with her family's steel-tubing firm, she raised four boys in Haverford in a home next to the house where she grew up, said their son, Bruce Stone.
Mrs. Stone was a talented needlecrafter and enjoyed golfing. She and her husband were members of the Merion Cricket Club, the Merion Golf Club, and the Laurel Oak Country Club in Sarasota, Fla., where they had a winter home.
In addition to her son Bruce, Mrs. Stone is survived by sons Warren Jr. and Edward; a brother; and seven grandchildren. Her husband died in 2001 and a son, James, died in 1981.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 230 Pennswood Rd., Bryn Mawr.
