Morris M. Shuster, 82, of Wynnewood, a Philadelphia lawyer, died of leukemia Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Morris M. Shuster, 82, of Wynnewood, a Philadelphia lawyer, died of leukemia Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Born in Philadelphia, he earned a bachelor's degree in economics at the University of Pennsylvania in 1951 and graduated from its law school in 1954.

Mr. Shuster worked with several Philadelphia firms, including his own, Shuster & Beckman, and in recent years with the Haverford firm Chimicles & Tikellis, his son-in-law, Larry Lederer, said.

Mr. Shuster also taught courses in dispute resolution as an adjunct professor at the law school of the University of Pennsylvania, Lederer said.

At Penn Law, where he was a member of the Advisory Committee for the Public Service Program, Mr. Shuster helped establish the Morris and Lorna Shuster Moot Trial Court Room and the Shuster Practice Professorship, Lederer said.

Penn Law gave him its Alumni Award of Merit in 1994, and he earned the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Legal Services Excellence Award in 2006, Lederer said.

Mr. Shuster was a member of the board of governors of the Philadelphia Bar Association and chair of its judicial commission. He also chaired three of its committees - on judicial selection and reform, civil legislation/legislative liaison, and civil judicial procedure.

Besides his son-in-law, Mr. Shuster is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lorna; a son, Stephen; a daughter, Pamela Lederer; a sister; and three grandchildren.

Services were set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Temple Beth Hillel-Beth El, Lancaster Avenue and Remington Road, Wynnewood, with interment in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd.
