 Arthur Z. Silver loved skiing.

On Friday, Mr. Silver (@azskier1 on Twitter) hit the slopes alone at Greek Peak Mountain in upstate New York, where he and his family had been going for three decades.

"We were going to go skiing as a family over the weekend," said Mr. Silver's son, Sam.

But overnight, Mr. Silver collapsed, and he died later Saturday, Dec. 29, of arrhythmia at Cortland (N.Y.) Regional Medical Center. Mr. Silver, who lived in Philadelphia and in Cherry Hill for many years before that, was 77.

A marketing executive who never completely retired, Mr. Silver had been active in many organizations, in the Jewish community and outside it.

At the National Constitution Center, Vince Stango, interim president and CEO, hailed Mr. Silver as the "consummate ambassador" for his volunteer work there.

"The center is a better place today because of his time, knowledge, passion, and talent," Stango said in a statement.

Xavier Hayden, commodore of the Liberty Sailing Club, said Mr. Silver would be missed. "He gave a lot to the club," Hayden said, noting that Mr. Silver was a former commodore and board member.

Mr. Silver also was a trustee of the Anna Sosenko Assist Trust for Emerging Performing Artists.

Mr. Silver was born in Brooklyn to M. John Silver, a lawyer, and his wife, Tina, a schoolteacher.

He was a graduate of Hofstra University and obtained an MBA from New York University.

He met Rebecca Goodman, his wife of more than 50 years, on a blind date in New York in 1959, their son recalled.

Mr. Silver had joined the Army Reserve and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis in 1961-62.

He later became national sales manager, based in Reno, Nev., for Sea & Ski, once one of the nation's biggest selling suntan lotions.

Mr. Silver and his family moved to Cherry Hill in the early 1970s, after Philadelphia-based Smith, Kline & French, now GlaxoSmithKline, bought the company that made Sea & Ski.

He later founded Silver Marketing Group, a South Jersey based firm representing health and beauty firms. He sold the business in 1993.

Sam Silver said his father was active in nearly every organization with which he was involved, be it a condo association or a swim club.

He also gave his time and energy to the Jewish Community Center, the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey, and Congregation M'kor Shalom, all in Cherry Hill.

Mr. Silver and his wife moved to Philadelphia in May, 2010.

Although technically retired, Mr. Silver continued to serve as a marketing consultant for a variety of firms, including within the ski industry, his son said.

"He never really retired," said Sam Silver.

His family said he also belonged to Mensa.

Besides his wife and son, of Cherry Hill, Mr. Silver is survived by a daughter, Sara Honovich of Voorhees, and four granddaughters.

Visitation is set for 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, at Platt Memorial Chapels, 2001 Berlin Rd., Cherry Hill, with a funeral service to follow at noon. Interment will be at Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill.

The family requests contributions to the Anna Sosenko Assist Trust, www.annasosenkotrust.org, or Planned Parenthood of Southern New Jersey, 317 Broadway, Camden, N.J. 08103, Attn: Development Department.
