Thomas C. Bernhardt, leader of pharmacists

Thomas C. Bernhardt, 64, of Mount Laurel, president of the New Jersey Pharmacists Association in 1989-90, died of a heart attack on Monday, May 13, at his home.

Thomas C. Bernhardt, 64, of Mount Laurel, president of the New Jersey Pharmacists Association in 1989-90, died of a heart attack on Monday, May 13, at his home.

Mr. Bernhardt was a faculty member of the department of pharmacy practice at the University of the Sciences, whose alumni association in 2010 gave him its honorary alumnus award.

Born in Philadelphia, he grew up in Moorestown, was a 1967 graduate of Moorestown High School, and earned a bachelor's degree in pharmacy at West Virginia University in 1972.

After being honorably discharged as an Army captain in 1976 and working at a small pharmacy in Trenton, he joined the faculty of what is now the University of the Sciences in 1978, daughter Erin Sauer said.

An instructor in clinical pharmacy throughout his teaching career, he was the director of advanced pharmacy practice experience courses, taught in the final year of the doctor of pharmacy program.

He was a member of Rho Chi and Kappa Psi fraternities at West Virginia, a member of the American Pharmacists Association, and an adviser to the Reserve Officers' Training Corps at the local college.

Besides his daughter, Mr. Bernhardt is survived by wife Pamela, mother Jean, daughter Andrea, and three grandchildren.

A viewing was set from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 17, at Lewis Funeral Home, 78 E. Main St., Moorestown, where a funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18. Interment will be in Presbyterian Cemetery, Moorestown.
