George F. "Pete" Pennypacker, 79, a longtime Devon resident and a builder of homes along the Main Line, died Sunday, May 19, of a heart ailment at a hospital in Fairfield, Texas, where he had moved in retirement.

A Radnor native, he graduated from Tredyffrin/Easttown High School. For many years, he was the owner and operator of Craft Homes Inc.

After he closed the business, he started a second career in home inspections. He retired in the late 1990s, said his granddaughter Kate Pennypacker.

In retirement, he and his wife, Roberta T., sold their home in Devon and took to the road in a Winnebago to visit family. Afterward, they settled in Florida. She died in the early 2000s.

While in Pennsylvania, Mr. Pennypacker was active in the Rotary Club, participating in charitable events. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball, and spending time with his family.

His granddaughter described Mr. Pennypacker as a man with a great sense of humor who loved telling a good story. He was devoted to his grandchildren.

"He would drive from Devon 41/2 hours, to Upstate New York, to see my softball tournaments," his granddaughter said.

Mr. Pennypacker was a coach for Devon-Strafford Little League when his sons were growing up, his granddaughter said.

Surviving, in addition to his granddaughter, are his second wife, Linda, with whom he lived in Texas; sons George, Harry, and Stanley; daughter Gail; two brothers; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Paoli Presbyterian Church, 225 S. Valley Rd., Paoli. Burial is private.

Donations be made to Devon-Strafford Little League, Box 674, Devon, Pa. 19333.
