Dr. John P. Capelli, 77, of Haddonfield, a former vice president of medical affairs at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, died Saturday, June 29, at home of complications due to pulmonary fibrosis.

Dr. John P. Capelli, 77, of Haddonfield, a former vice president of medical affairs at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, died Saturday, June 29, at home of complications due to pulmonary fibrosis.
Born in Hammonton, Dr. Capelli attended Malvern Preparatory School as a boarding student and then Villanova University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in biology in 1958. Four years later, he graduated from Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital with a medical degree.
He founded the dialysis and transplant center at Our Lady of Lourdes and served as chief of nephrology and vice president of medical affairs at the medical center. Though he retired in 2010, he didn't stop his office practice until he fell ill in May, his wife, Patricia, said.
"He was a wonderful administrator," she said, "but he never stopped taking care of patients."
In addition to his wife of 51 years, Dr. Capelli is survived by sons David and John; a daughter, Elizabeth Capelli; and four grandchildren.
A visitation will be 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 901 Hopkins Rd., Haddon Township, N.J. 08033, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Entombment will be in Cavalry Mausoleum, 2398 Route 70, Cherry Hill.
