Kenneth F. Ostrowski, 54, of Swedesburg, Montgomery County, a floral designer, died Sunday, Aug. 4, of kidney cancer at Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse.
A large man with an irrepressible spirit, he worked until two years ago as a salesman for Zieger & Sons Inc., a wholesale florist in Philadelphia, said his sister Lori Roscoe. He stopped for health reasons but continued informally, helping friends with decorative projects.
Before Ziegler, he worked for Plaza Flowers in Norristown.
Mr. Ostrowski "had a huge heart and an even bigger personality," his family said in a statement. On his Facebook page, he described himself as "a very funny, fun-loving person" who enjoyed creating "really nice flower arrangements."
He recorded videos of himself discussing work in lively segments called "Kenny's Kooler," which can be seen on YouTube.com.
A lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church in Swedesburg, he shared his artistic and musical gifts with the parish community. He served as cantor, sang in the choir, and was a soloist for weddings and funerals.
For more than 30 years, he decorated the church for feast days and holidays, "creating an environment of beauty and reverence," his family said.
He also volunteered during the church's annual Polish festival in July, running the babka stand. Babka is a rich bread or cake that can be flavored with chocolate or cheese.
Mr. Ostrowski was a member of the Holy Name Society and received its Man of the Year Award in 2012. He had served as president of the choir, chair of the Arts and Environment Committee, and a member of the Liturgy Committee.
In the past, Mr. Ostrowski performed with the Barn Playhouse in West Norriton and the Narberth Community Theatre. He also assisted with costumes and makeup.
Born in Norristown, Mr. Ostrowski graduated from Bishop Kenrick High School in 1976.
Surviving are another sister, Pat Michel; two nieces; his cousin Judy Vicchio, with whom he lived; and several aunts.
