Margarite Yeager, 86, of Moorestown, who overcame a difficult foster childhood to have a career in accounting and raise four children, died Saturday, Dec. 21, at her home.

Mrs. Yeager had Alzheimer's disease and had been experiencing declining health when she died peacefully, said her husband, Richard Yeager.

"She was an incredibly gentle, kindhearted person," he said.

Mrs. Yeager was born in Chicago in 1927 and was raised in East Liverpool, Ohio, by a foster mother who died young and a foster father who was unable to work because of a disability, her family said. She never knew her birth parents.

After leaving high school, she learned bookkeeping and accounting while working and established a career as an accountant.

In 1955, she met her future husband, Richard, at an advertising agency they worked at in Upstate New York.

They married on Dec. 30, 1956. She had three children from a previous marriage and a fourth with Mr. Yeager, who adopted the other three children.

Mrs. Yeager later worked at her husband's advertising agency as chief financial officer.

Mr. and Mrs. Yeager had a summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine, and traveled frequently to Europe.

They were longtime patrons of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Opera Company of Philadelphia. She was a member of the New Jersey Women's Committee of the Orchestra, which supported the Philadelphia Orchestra.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Evans; sons Bruce Yeager, Phillip Yeager, and Richard Yeager II; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 207 W. Main St., Moorestown.
