Andrea G. Tillis Solomon, 68, a lawyer and longtime Delaware County resident, died Tuesday, June 14, of complications from a heart attack in Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Md.
Mrs. Solomon was attending the Bench Bar Conference of the Delaware County Bar Association in Annapolis when she collapsed in her hotel room, said daughter Maria. Doctors could not revive her.
A native of Vatili, Cyprus, Mrs. Solomon came to the United States at the age of 3e with her widowed mother, Mary Tillis. Her father, George, had died a year earlier in Cyprus.
Mrs. Solomon's childhood was spent in Washington Heights, New York City. She saw higher education as a path to advancement and put herself through college and law school while working full-time.
She earned an undergraduate degree from Long Island University, a law degree from St. John's University in New York, and a master of laws in taxation from Villanova University.
In 1976, she married Demos Solomon. They lived in Drexel Hill, where they reared two daughters.
Her family described Mrs. Solomon as a dedicated wife and mother, and professional. A member of the New York and Pennsylvania State Bars, she initially maintained an office in Upper Darby, but for the last 15 years worked from home in Drexel Hill.
"She was an intelligent individual who loved her family and who was passionate about raising her girls to be true to their Greek heritage," her daughter said.
She also was an animal lover, and her dogs over the years - White Sox, Sydney, Red Sox, Hermes, and Aten - brought her great joy, the family said.
Besides her mother, husband, and daughter, Mrs. Solomon is survived by a daughter, Helena.
A 10 a.m. viewing Friday, June 17, will be followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service at St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church, 35 N. Malin Rd., Broomall. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill.
